Final Project Progress

Hour 1-2:

Here it is 3am and I’m still stumped on what I should do for the final. I’ve thought primarily about sound and video since they’re both my favorite medium. What I may do is create a video called “The Problem with Clones” where I’ll create 2 me’s in each mini-scene and have one bothering the other. These 2 me’s will not be mirrored (meaning doing the exact things at the same time, like a mirror) but they will each speak/move separately, and even interact with each other. I can create this using my video camera and some tools in Final Cut. The format will be like an informational video about the potential problems of having a clone of yourself. Ex. “Problem 1: They steal your things….” then there’s a video sequence of one trying to steal the other’s drink or something. It’s almost 3:30…I’m sleepy and cant write coherently anymore…i’ll think about it more tomorrow.

Hour 3-5:

Okay so cross out my last idea. After thinking ALOT about it for a few days, I think it’d be cooler if I could learn how to create cinemagraphs in Photoshop and make a series telling a story. A cinemagraph is an image where only one part of the picture moves and loops. Basically a mix of a photo and a GIF. I sort of have an idea how to go about it, but I’ll need to research it a bit to make sure I’m on the right track. I’m keeping the “Life of a College Student” video idea, but this time it’s going to be in the form of a multiple cinemagraph series. I’ve already started taking videos of normal things I do on campus throughout the day so now the hard part will be separating the video from the screenshots in Photoshop and having them work with multiple frames.

Example of a Cinemagraph:

Hour 19: Trying to figure out how to make the rest of the background come back in the image above. Just making each layer visible isn’t working for some reason! Aaahh!! I need the rest of the microwave!!

Hour 20: FINALLY figured out how to make the rest of the microwave come back. Turns out for each layer I not only had to make the layer itself visible, but also the background (Layer 1) visible. So I went back through all 31 frames and individually made them visible along with the background layer. It didn’t hit me until later that I could’ve selected all the frames and did this adjustment once….Come to think of it, I could’ve done this for ALL the images.
